Selena Gomez appears to have been inspired by her close friend Taylor Swift's song "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" as she declares her intention to take a break from social media. During a TikTok Live session on Thursday, February 23, the 30-year-old singer and actress explained that she will be stepping back from social media because she finds it a bit silly. Shaking her finger in disdain, she added that she's too old for this kind of thing. Despite this, she expressed her love for her fans, laughing as she stated that she would be back soon. To reaffirm her decision, she concluded, "I will see you guys sooner than later. I just, I'm gonna just take a break from everything."

Just a month after ending her four-year-long Instagram hiatus, Selena Gomez announced that she's taking a break from social media. This news came shortly after she spoke out against the alleged "bullying" of Hailey Bieber and Kylie Jenner. Selena responded to a TikTok video from a newly converted fan, who expressed her support for Selena after hearing about the bullying. Selena seemed to appreciate the support and thanked her new fan for her kind words.

Selena also publicly called out Rhode Beauty founder, Hailey Bieber, after a video resurfaced of Hailey making a gagging motion at the mention of Taylor Swift's name on a former rapper battle show called Drop the Mic. Selena commented on the video, defending her friend, "So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game."

In November of 2022, Selena opened up about the significance of her friendship with a music icon who is 33 years old, and confessed that the individual is her only friend in the industry. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Selena stated that she never felt like she fit in with the trendy group of celebrity girls. She recollected feeling like she did not belong.

As mentioned previously, Selena has been in the middle of rumors of bullying after Kylie posted Instagram Story updates that seemed to mock Selena's self-deprecating humor regarding over-laminating her eyebrows. Shortly after the former Disney star shared her TikTok Story posts, in which she complimented Bella Hadid's looks, Kylie uploaded a selfie with the words "this was an accident???" written directly over her eyebrows. She then shared a screenshot of her FaceTiming with Hailey while they stared at each other's eyebrows.
