Nicki Minaj returned to music with her brand new song and persona, Red Ruby Da Sleeze

Nicki Minaj has returned to the music scene in 2023 with a new persona and brand new track, “Red Ruby Da Sleeze.” The single has been widely speculated to contain diss lyrics directed at Megan Thee Stallion, with some fans pointing out possible references to the rapper.

Released on Mar. 3, the track marks Nicki’s first solo release since “Super Freaky Girl” in 2022, which debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. The Barbz were ecstatic when Nicki finally achieved her first solo No. 1 hit, having reached the top spot with 6ix9ine’s “Trollz.” Her other hits, such as “Super Bass,” “Anaconda,” “Bang Bang,” and “Chun-Li,” came close but never quite hit No. 1.

As soon as “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” was released, fans started speculating about the song's lyrics and how they may be targeting Megan Thee Stallion. For instance, when Nicki raps, “I don’t f*** with horses since Christopher Reeves,” some fans speculated that the 'horse' reference is a jab at Megan’s rap name as 'Stallion' can be a synonym for a male horse. Additionally, Christopher Reeves’ accident occurred in 1995, which was also the same year as Megan’s birth year. In another line, Nicki appears to reference Megan’s shooting incident by saying, “That .40 cal make ’em dance like a go-go,” which some speculate to be an allusion to Tory Lanez, who was found guilty of shooting Megan. Police reportedly found a .40 caliber Glock 22 at the scene of the shooting.

The history between Nicki and Megan has been a bit complicated. The two previously collaborated on “Hot Girl Summer” but then appeared to have a falling out after Megan worked with Nicki’s nemesis, Cardi B, on “WAP.” Many Barbz took it as a betrayal, which Nicki addressed during a 2019 iHeart interview, stating, “I really hate the fact that [people do that]. It’s really like a lot of the fans. They really make it seem like you’re picking sides. I really, really, really like both of them. They’re two different people, two different rappers. It’s not even the same. I feel like we need to stop trying to compare them.”

In 2022, Nicki released a remix of “Super Freaky Girl” the same week Megan put out Traumazine, causing the beef speculation to increase. Megan’s song “Gift & A Cuse” contains the lines “Fix your face, b**** / you hurt, hurt, hurt / all that talkin’ ain’t making me nervous / Feelin’ yourself, put down them perkys,” which some took as a reference to Nicki’s 2014 track, “Feeling Myself” (per HITC). Nicki’s “Super Freaky Girl” remix contained a new line when she rapped, “Tell that goofy, get a chair / she was cocky, I could swear / ‘Till my old tape sold more than your album / drop a tear.” This line was taken as a reference to Nicki’s claims that her Beam Me Up Scotty mixtape sold more than Megan’s 2021 compilation, Something For Thee Hotties.

Nicki went on to Queen Radio in 2022 and claimed that an unnamed rapper told her to “go to the clinic” because Minaj opted not to drink during her pregnancy. This led some Barbz to accuse Megan of telling Nicki to abort her child. Megan responded by stating
